Winchester Before

All too often I hear that a restoration only hurts the value or is destroying the history of a firearm. I ask that you take a look at the following pictures and tell me if you agree.

This rifle required a major restoration. Both the barrel and magazine tube had been shortened, the buttplate was missing, wood had been sanded and had numerous cracks,  significant cuts and dings in the frame where somone had taken an overly large screwdriver to the screws,  moderate pitting on most of the metal, sights were incorrect for this rifle. The rifle was completely restored with upgraded wood, a new barrel and magazine tube installed;  frame welded up, all dings and pitting removed, then color case hardened. Sights were replaced with the correct ones and all the screws were replaced and nitre blued allong with the smaller parts.

The rifle prior to restoration would have been a prime candidate for a "parts gun" ie.. parted out and sold for parts alone. With a proper restoration this rifle can now be enjoyed by many more generations at a fraction of the cost of an "origional" Winchester in the same condition.

Winchester After

This Colt, a 1st generation in 38 Special, was pitted, heavily buffed, and then nickel plated.  The nickel had to be stripped off, all markings replaced and all edges trued up, re color case hardened and blued just like it left the factory.

I make barrels with correct rollmarks and stamps.
